The IPL final match is still being discussed across India, as it will for many days and even weeks.
The season ended with the Kolkata Knight Riders winning by three wickets over Kings XI Punjab.
KKR had also previously beaten KXIP in the Qualifier 1 by 28 runs.
“In what turned out to be a fitting finale to a splendid season of Pepsi IPL, the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Kings XI Punjab by three wickets in a thrilling last-over finish in Bengaluru,” the IPL website said in a recap.
“While KXIP posted a mammoth 199 for four – thanks to a brilliant century by Wriddhiman Saha – KKR ensured they were up to the mark during the chase despite losing routine wickets. Their cause was fuelled by a match-winning 94 (off 50 balls) by Manish Pandey. This is the Knight Riders’ second title triumph, after their maiden win back in 2011.”
Piyush Chawla struck the winning four for his team with three balls to spare.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that three were arrested for accepting bets on the final.
Vishal Upadhyay, 26, Abhishek Singh, 28, and Yaseen Sheikh, 28 were betting on the final match through three different websites, police say. A team of officers raided an apartment near Hindustan Naka in Kandivli and seized a number of phones as well as four SIM cards and a laptop, among other items.
“We have asked for details of 16 mobile numbers from the service providers. We have seized an account book from the trio in which there are code names of punters and figures are scribbled. It has also been learnt that SIM cards have been taken using bogus documents by the group,” said a crime branch officer to DNA.
