Will Apple Unveil an iPad Mini “Tweener” Today?

Later on today Apple is expected to announce an all new iPad mini. The latest episode in the so called “tablet wars”, manufacturers getting the edge seems to have been taken to the extreme of late. Or should I say “take to the mini?” Everything seems to be questioning whether or not the gadget world really needs an Apple with a 7.85-inch display?

Later on today Apple is expected to announce an all new iPad Mini. This latest episode in the so called “tablet wars” witnesses manufacturers getting the edge by taking things to the extreme. Or should I say “taking things to the minimum?” Does the gadget world really need an Apple with a 7.85-inch display though?

Ever since Apple unleashed the iPhone on the world Steve Jobs’ brand has been assailed, by every competitor that could crank out circuitry basically. Then the iPad and iPad 2 came along, and so on. Today, rumors start every time Apple opens their doors for business it seems, each day the tech world (especially the competition) awaits new miraculous wonders. Engadget to Wired and beyond, all eyes are once again on San Jose, and maybe even more minimalism.

Steve Jobs reportedly hated the idea of what he called a “Tweener”. The man who basically mind powered Apple to gadget supremacy pretty much thought of such devices as cannon fodder, a waste of money and material. Even so, you can probably expect to see the all new “TweenerPad” announced later today. Wired even has a cover made for the device supposedly. But...

The corporate search to squeeze every dollar out of a market seems to always prevail, so enter the one solid reasoning for building “tweeners” of any kind. More profit. Google sells a lot of Nexus tablets, Amazon’s Kindle Fire has made a bundle for that company too. The iPad mini could just be a shot across the bow of those competitors, and a bid for more Q1 2013 black ink. This seems like the most logical reason to produce something actually inferior to current Apple products.

But then I tend to like bigger screens and I do have fat fingers. Aside chomping on Google and Amazon revenue fruits, Apple may have bigger plans for this latest “i” wonder, namely the sweet little hands of K -12 students. (Jobs would have approved of that)

Finally, Apple fans can also expect Apple to unveil a “mini” version of their popular “Regina” MacBook Pro, improvements to the wonderous iMacs and Mac Minis, etc. Apple will draw back the curtain today at 1 PM Eastern, 10 AM Pacific at the California Theater in San Jose. Cross your fingers if you are a “tweener” aficionado.
