The next iPad is going to get the gold treatment.

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is going to add gold as a color option for the 9.7-inch iPad’s rear metal cover.

This means that the iPad will be available in the same colors as the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, namely, space gray, silver, and gold.

Bloomberg suggests that Apple are adding the new color in order to “goose sales,” something they did with by adding a range of colors to the iMac line in 1999 and the iPhone 5C in 2013.

Indeed, Apple needs to inject some life into flagging iPad sales over the past two quarters. In 2013, iPad sales generated $32 billion for Apple.

This isn’t the first time news of a golden iPad has been rumored, however.

In the first week of September, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the next generation iPad Air will have a “new gold-colored casing,” along with “anti-reflective screen coating, a full-lamination touch panel, and a next-generation A8 processor,” along with Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

Taiwanese publication TechNews also revealed that the iPad Air 2 will have 2GB of RAM and come in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options.

As for the iPad Mini 3 and a 12.9-inch iPad, they are expected to be unveiled in 2015.

The iPad Air 2 should be announced at this month at an Apple press event.

The Daily Dot speculates that Apple will be releasing the iPad Air 2 along with OS X Yosemite on October 21.
