Apple’s latest iOS has an issue connecting with cars via Bluetooth.

The latest iOS 8.0.2 patch fixed a number of key issues — HealthKit apps now show up on the App Store, apps can access photos in the Photo Library, and iOS 8.0.1 cellular network connectivity and Touch ID issues, just to name a few — but bugs still remain.

The most troubling bug at present affects an iOS 8.0.2 device’s Bluetooth connectivity.

A number of car owners have complained on the MacRumors and Apple forums that their iPhones cannot be paired with their car’s Bluetooth, fail to play audio over the speakers, or automatically disconnect an incoming call.

MacRumors forum member shenan1982 claims: “Now when I am connected via bluetooth, I place a call, and it says it’s going over bluetooth, but it doesn’t interrupt my car’s music, and the audio doesn’t play over the speakers.

“The only way I can talk to the person is if I press the Audio button on the phone and select speakerphone or iPhone as if it wasn’t connected to the car.”

This bug is not limited to a small number of car makes or manufacturers. Those who drive Hyundai, Chevrolet, Aston Martin, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Toyota, Acura, Infiniti, Ford, Mazda, and Mitsubishi cars have reported problems.

Some iPhone users have recommended logging out of iCloud, “forgetting” connected Bluetooth devices, using the “Reset All Settings” and/or “Reset Network Settings” option, rebooting the iPhone, and re-pairing the iPhone with the car or other Bluetooth devices, before logging into iCloud.

The fix doesn’t seem to work for all, however, and choosing the “Reset All Settings” could delete all documents from one’s iCloud Drive to boot.

MacRumors also reports that Apple is aware of the Bluetooth bug and is working on a fix, which should be available some time in late October, if rumors are accurate.
