Auburn gymnast Samantha Cerio, who suffered severe injuries to her legs during a competition, made good on her promise.

Cerio was seen walking down the aisle during her wedding, two months after she suffered the devastating, career-ending injury, reported. The injury went viral on social media, showing her knees bending in an unnatural way.

She posted photos of her wedding at the Trey Wood at Fairhope Yacht Club in Alabama on Instagram.

In other photos, she was also seen walking down the aisle and her first dance with her husband.

Several weeks ago, Cerio cautioned other people not to share the viral clip of her injury, saying it wasn’t for their entertainment.

“I think it’s made people more aware of what they see on the internet,” she told “When you see something like that, you kind of want to watch it just to see what happens, because you’re curious about it, but at the same time, you don’t think about the people that it could impact.”

She also wrote on social media days after the video went viral: “Going through the pain and seeing my knees bent unnaturally in real life was horrible enough, but to continue to see it from videos/pictures because some people feel entitled to repost it is not okay. I have family, friends, and teammates who do not need to see me getting injured over and over again. My pain is not your entertainment,” the statement continued.

Immediately after the injury, Cerio thought something was a “little wrong” before she looked at her legs. “I could feel my pass was off by just a little… usually even if they feel off I can get through,” she added.

“Then that’s when I saw what had happened, that’s when like the pain kind of started to set in and it got worse,” Cerio continued.

Friday night was my final night as a gymnast. After 18 years I am hanging up my grips and leaving the chalk behind. I couldn’t be prouder of the person that gymnastics has made me to become. It’s taught me hard work, humility, integrity, and dedication, just to name a few. It’s given me challenges and road blocks that I would have never imagined that has tested who I am as a person. It may not have ended the way I had planned, but nothing ever goes as planned. Thank you Auburn family for giving me a home and a chance to continue doing the sport that will always be my first love. I am honored to have had the privilege to represent the navy and orange AU for the past 4 years with my team by my side. Thank you for letting me share my passion with you. Thank you for letting me be a part of something bigger than myself. War Eagle Always 💙🧡

Despite her injury, Cerio said she is looking forward to the future.

“I’m really excited just because I have so many positive things coming up. I mean, this is a small setback, but it’s… just another thing to get through,” she added. “Even though that was my last gymnastics meet, everything we do, everything I have done and trained for Auburn has always been for my team. Just knowing that I have their support behind me 100 percent… that’s always helped me.”
