NASA Reveals New Spaceships—Boeing and Elon Musk’s SpaceX (Infographic)

In a move to end U.S. dependency on Russia for access to space, including the International Space Station, NASA has been developing homegrown spacecraft in partnership with private companies.

Boeing, Sierra Nevada, and SpaceX have been developing spacecraft independently in a competition to become America’s next space taxi, after the Space Shuttle.

On Sept. 16, 2014, NASA selected Boeing and SpaceX as winners of the competition.
