An accident on Jan. 2 left three dead in Charlotte, North Carolina, officials there said.

A scaffolding collapse in downtown Charlotte left three construction workers deceased, according to the Charlotte Fire Department, which described it as an “industrial accident.”

Two additional workers were rushed to area hospitals for evaluation, Jackie Gilmore, a captain with the fire department, told reporters near the building on East Morehead Street.

Fire officials secured the scene but are waiting for U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) workers to arrive and evaluate the situation.

“All construction work at this site has come to a complete site until this investigation is completed,” Gilmore said.

OSHA workers later arrived on the scene, WSOC-TV reported.

Images and video footage from the ground showed police and fire officials at the building.

Footage also showed construction workers leaving the building. Many spoke with police officers before departing.
