Independent News Cannot Be Silenced—Support Our Truthful Journalism

Dear reader,
In a recent front-page article, The New York Times acknowledged the impressive growth of The Epoch Times, describing it as “one of the country’s most powerful digital publishers.

This is not something we could have done without you, our readers.

Over the decades, ownership of the majority of U.S. media has declined from hundreds, to dozens, to now just a handful of companies—all major corporations. This is part of the reason why The Epoch Times was founded—to provide an independent voice and give readers more choice.

We believe it is because of our rapid growth, with more readers choosing The Epoch Times, that The New York Times spent eight months writing an article about us.

But instead of telling the success story of a group of Chinese Americans who cherish their First Amendment rights and who created a media dedicated to telling the truth, The New York Times sought to attack our award-winning journalism. It even went as far as attacking the religious beliefs of the founders of The Epoch Times and downplaying well-documented human rights atrocities taking place in China (read more here).

Nevertheless, as a result of the article, we have received an outpouring of support and a jump in new subscriptions.

We invite anyone to compare The Epoch Times and The New York Times and decide for yourself which has better journalism.

Trial by Fire

This all-out attack is not new to us.

For over 20 years, we’ve had the world’s largest communist regime, led by the Chinese Communist Party, try to crush our independent voice due to our commitment to freedom of the press and our unwavering commitment to telling the truth.

The CCP has arrested and tortured our staff members in China, and in the United States, our advertisers have been threatened by Chinese Embassy officials and our newspaper boxes have been vandalized. In Hong Kong, one of our printing presses was set on fire.

These adversities, however, have only strengthened our commitment to speaking the truth.

We have been surprised, however, that our competitors in free societies—such as NBC News, The New York Times, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)—have used false and misleading information to attack us.

What this reveals is the difference between The Epoch Times and these other media organizations. We stand for honest and accurate journalism and have never wavered from reporting on the world’s largest communist regime.

For years now, the CCP has sought as a matter of state policy to subvert most major institutions in the West, including those in government and academia, as well as media organizations.

While we have worked for the past 20 years to expose the danger posed by the CCP and its efforts to subvert America, The New York Times and many other media organizations have been taking advertising money from Chinese state-owned media entities and staying silent on the most severe human rights violations in China, as well as the regime’s aggressive subversion of the United States.

We have never taken a penny from the CCP, and our independence is what makes us different. It is support from readers like you—who share our mission to restore independent and truthful journalism—that make this all possible.

Here’s what some of our readers have to say about us:

“The Epoch Times is one of the few remaining papers that does great journalism.”  - Gen. Robert Spalding (Oct. 26, 2020)
“The @nytimes running a hit piece on the best new media source ... assists communist China suppress information.” - Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) (Oct. 26, 2020)
“I just subscribed about a month ago and just received my 5th print paper. I’ll be a subscriber for a very long time.”  - Steve K, subscriber of The Epoch Times (Oct. 25, 2020)
“I am also a relatively new subscriber to the ET paper and digital version. Very impressed with the veracity and depth of all their reporting.”  - Randall Cummings, subscriber of The Epoch Times (Oct. 25, 2020)
