Arizona man Randy Tenney lost his life to cancer in December 2019 after 45 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Debbie. Randy had gifted his wife with flowers and a poem every single Valentine’s Day throughout their marriage; despite Randy’s absence, Valentine’s Day 2020 was no different.

On Feb. 14, Debbie was presented with a stunning, unexpected gift “from Heaven.”

In footage shared by Local Memphis, Debbie approaches the table where her bouquet of flowers is sitting and reaches for the card. As Randy’s words sink in, she exclaims, “Stop it.” The poem reads:
“Roses are red, violets are blue, yelling from Heaven that I will always love you. With love from your eternal Valentine, R.T.”

The moving poem was affixed to a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses topped by a single red rose.

“It was Dad’s idea, Mom,” says one of Debbie’s daughters, standing behind the camera. “It was all Dad. He didn’t want you to be without a valentine.”

As per WTSP, Randy passed away at the age of 65 after battling glioblastoma, a rare brain cancer. Anticipating the end, Randy was careful to put plans in place to ensure that his wife was not forgotten on Valentine’s Day, a day that the couple had recognized together every year since tying the knot in 1974.

Randy and Debbie went on to have 8 children, 33 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren together. “They were high school sweethearts,” the couple’s son, Jordan, explained. “He doted on her every day.”

The Tenneys lived in Show Low, Arizona. Randy, formerly a property manager and little league coach, had arranged his wife’s Valentine’s Day surprise months in advance by enlisting the help of a family friend who owned a flower shop.

After photos of Debbie’s touching gift from her late husband were posted on Facebook, many people left supportive comments or shared anecdotes of their own loves and losses.

“My husband sent me flowers as well the first year after he died,” one person shared. “It helps with the grieving process so much, and the loneliness.”

“So amazing as when he was facing dealing with his cancer, he made her a priority and wanted to make sure [she] was still taken care of,” wrote another. “That is a great unselfish man with a heart full of love for his wife.”

As per WTSP, almost 400 people attended Randy’s funeral. “His philosophy was scattering sunshine, spreading happiness,” said Jordan.

Five years before Randy passed away, another doting husband, this time from Casper in Wyoming, had the very same idea. Jim Golay also lost his life to brain cancer but made provisions for his wife, Shelly, before he passed to make sure she would not be alone on Valentine’s Day.

As per The Huffington Post, Shelly received a huge bouquet of pink, purple, and white flowers with a very special card tucked inside. The card read, “Happy Valentine’s Day Honey. Stay Strong! Yours Forever, Love Jim.”

Unlike Randy, Jim had kept his Valentine’s Day surprise a secret even from his children. When the flowers arrived on Feb. 12, 2015, Jim’s son called the flower shop to confirm that Jim was indeed the sender.

Not only had the flowers been Jim’s doing, but the loyal husband had also arranged for Shelly to receive flowers every single year for the rest of her life. “Oh, I sobbed as my son held me,” Shelly told The Huffington Post. “I felt so loved all over again!

“I just felt his love surround me and it lifted me up,” she continued. “His act of love was true love in its purest form.”
