A small Makani Kai plane crashed off Molokai Island in Hawaii on Wednesday afternoon.
Eight people were rescued while another died, reported the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
The plane went down about a half-mile northwest of the island, near the small community of Kalaupapa.
A helicopter is responding.
It appears all eight people have survived and are wearing life vests in the water.
