GERMANY—Members of Hamburg Environmental Association set an ambitious goal for the next five years. The Chamber of Commerce, several other city organizations, and Senate members agreed to extend their cooperation until 2013.

The Hamburg Environmental Association members are setting their sights on increasing participation in environmental protection efforts to double participation to 1,000 members. In addition, they wish to increase the participating industries and organizations from 1,500 to 5,000.

An environmental partner is considered one who voluntarily contributes to the protection of the ecology, or uses resources efficiently. Those who are concerned with protection of the environment will make use of the association’s suggestions regarding the environment. The term Environmental Association Partner has already become a recognized logo, according to environmental senator Anja Hajduk, who stated several companies are already using this term in their advertising.

Her speech emphasized the need and urgency of environmental protection. Scientists have projected a temperature rise of 2 degrees Celsius by the end of this century, a temperature change equivalent to the difference between Berlin and Madrid.
