Celebrities of every genre are urging their fans and audiences to give support to the survivors of Tuesday’s massive earthquake in Haiti.

Many famous names took to Twitter this week to call for action in helping Haitians in their time of need, including Ben Stiller who tweeted, “People in Haiti need our help and attention right now.” LL Cool J said, “I want to send my love to all the Haitians and Haitian Americans affected by the earthquake. Keep the faith.”

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $1 million to the organization Doctors Without Borders. Pitt said in a statement, “We understand the first response is critical to serve the immediate needs of countless people who are now displaced from their homes, are suffering trauma, and most require urgent care.”

Oprah Winfrey opened her talk show with a call for support for the Red Cross, telling her audience, “This is a time where we, as a global nation, should come together and support those who are in need.”

Rocker Chris Martin of Coldplay backed the organization Oxfam International, a conglomerate of aid organizations that focuses on the needs of the impoverished. The singer had traveled with the group to Haiti a number of years ago and said on the band’s website Wednesday, “It’s a country of extreme poverty and brutal living conditions, most people in Port-au-Prince live in tin shacks... the earthquake that has struck Haiti will have turned the city into an unimaginable hell, the people of Haiti will be desperate for help and assistance.”

Singer Wyclef Jean returned to his distraught, native country on Wednesday and urged immediate action, saying, “I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse,“ he said in a statement. ”The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.”
