Germany thrashed Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, and Argentina 4–0 in World Cup quarterfinal play at Greenpoint Stadium in Capetown on Saturday. Nobody would have predicted this score line but in the end it was entirely justified. Germany was world class whereas Argentina looked like the team that struggled to qualify out of South America.Miroslav Klose scored twice for Germany, taking his 2010 World Cup goal tally to four along with teammate Thomas Muller, who scored the first goal in the third minute. Klose now has 14 World Cup goals, second only to Brazil’s Ronaldo.
“The football we played in the second half was top class. My team showed the desire and commitment of champions. I never imagined we’d win by this margin,” said Germany coach Joachim Loew on FIFA.com.
The quarterfinal win over Argentina marks the third time in the tournament Germany has scored four goals. They are an attacking force unlike any other.

The big disappointment was the lack of fight shown by the Argentines after going down two goals mid-way through the second half. It was a complete capitulation. Argentina only had one plan, and it didn’t work.
