George Zimmerman, the former Florida neighborhood watch volunteer accused of killing Trayvon Martin, wanted to “hunt fugitives,”

“The reason I want to be a law enforcement officer is [that] I want to ‘hunt fugitives’ and make sure they won’t get away,” Prosecutor Richard Mantei said on Friday, paraphrasing what Zimmerman wrote in a notebook for a law enforcement homework assignment.

Mantei also claimed that Zimmerman called Martin a “suspect” before a confrontation ensued between the two, which left the 17-year-old dead.

It was also reported Friday that Zimmerman got an “A” in a college course that involved self-defense.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in Martin’s death and has pleaded not guilty. He claims he shot the boy in self-defense when they got into a scuffle on Feb. 26, 2012.
