Premier League leaders Chelsea will look to bounce back from their disappointing 1-1 draw against Galatasaray during Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match with a win against bottom table Fulham. A solid result from the Blues will keep them ahead of second place Arsenal, who is 1 point behind.
While there are no major injuries in the Chelsea squad, manager Jose Mourinho is critical of the match being scheduled three days after their Champions League fixture.
“We didn’t train on Thursday or Friday [morning],” said Mourinho. “Playing Sunday would be difficult, but Saturday makes it even more difficult.”
New Fulham manager Felix Magath believes that the scheduling may provide “a chance” for his side.
Magath needs to grab that chance to produce a decent result and avoid the sack. Owner Shahid Khan Magath fired Magath’s predecessor Rene Meulensteen a mere 75 days into the job. Martin Jol, whom Meulensteen replaced, was dismissed on Dec. 1, 2013 following 6 consecutive defeats in all competitions.
New Fulham signing Kostas Mitroglou will be left out of the squad as Magath doesn’t feel that the former Olympiakos striker can handle the Premier League’s intense pace, according to The Guardian. The $20m (£12m) player could, however, return in Fulham’s next match against Cardiff City.
