Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey Tribbiani in the classic sitcom Friends, has come on the record to dismiss ideas about a Friends reunion.

LeBlanc, currently starring in Episodes, said that he worries that any spinoff would be inferior to the original series.

“As far as I know, I spoke to David [Crane] about it, it’s the case of ’the books better than the movie,'” he told Digital Spy.

“That show was about a finite period of time in life, after college and before your relationship and family starts and where your friends are your support system and that’s what the magic of the show was, everyone goes through that and can relate to that.

“No one wants to see Chandler at his kid’s soccer game talking to other people. It was those characters in a room relying on each other and past that it’s not the same environment so I don’t see it happening.”

Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller in Friends, recently said during an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman that she is also opposed to the prospect of a Friends reunion.

She said that she hasn’t even been successful in arranging a reunion dinner with the former cast over the last 10 years, so any type of television revival is unrealistic.

Letterman asked her whether she found questions about a possible reunion irritating.

“Only because once you say I like it, they contact every other cast member and say, ‘Well Courteney’s into it’. It’s not going to happen,” she said.

“Let me tell you something, there are six ‘Friends’ and I’ve been trying to put together a cast dinner for ten years. It doesn’t happen. I can get the girls, maybe Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc canceled last time right at the last minute, Schwimmer lives here. So it’s never going to happen.”
