Four people were arrested over the weekend in Sweden on the suspicion that they were planning a terrorist attack, according to the Swedish national security agency.
The security agency “estimates that there is currently no cause for public concern” regarding safety apparatus in Sweden, it said in a translated statement.
The four were arrested in the western city of Gothenburg, the second largest in the Scandinavian country. The National Task Force and police in Gothenburg helped make the arrest.
In the statement, the agency did not elaborate further on the suspects or on the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
In Sweden, the threat level for a potential terrorist attack has remained elevated since last year but the security agency did not raise it more following the arrest.
The threat of violence and potential terrorist attacks has risen in Scandinavia over the past several years. Last December, there was a failed bomb attempt in Stockholm, which killed the bomber. In July, Norway was the victim of a domestic terrorist attack when nationalist Anders Breivik, killed 77 people in a bombing in Oslo and the shooting massacre at a youth camp on nearby Utoya Island.
