Pop singer Katy Perry is being hailed for her quick action to help a fan who suddenly collapsed on stage during one of her concerts.
During her August 3 show at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Perry invited several concertgoers on stage to perform her 2011 hit song “The One That Got Away.”
Several videos circulating online showed Perry, 40, offer some words of affirmation to McKenna, saying, “Let’s practice. You got this, and let’s breathe.”
Moments later, McKenna suddenly faints, and Perry frantically rushes to her side as she waits for crew members and medical personnel to assist.
While it remains unclear what caused McKenna to collapse, Perry helped the young fan onto a stretcher before she was taken from the stage.
The singer went on to lead the arena in a group prayer for McKenna, saying, “Dear God, we pray for McKenna, that she will come back fully and brighter and better than ever. Amen.”
“It’s so much,” Perry said. “Sometimes you’re so brave and you can get on stage, and it’s overwhelming. I understand that feeling.”
Perry, who grew up with a religious background, began singing in church as a young girl, later launching her career as Katy Hudson in 2001 with a self-titled Christian album, before taking the stage name Katy Perry.
Later in the concert, Perry updated fans about McKenna’s condition, telling the audience that “McKenna’s doing great, by the way.”
Perry was left dangling mid-air and attempted to regain her balance while singing her 2013 hit single “Roar.”
Perry was in Detroit over the weekend as part of her “Lifetimes Tour” that kicked off on April 23 in Mexico City.
Her next show is scheduled for August 5 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.
