Actor Christian Slater was formally recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, marking a significant milestone in a film and television career spanning decades.
“It’s tricky. There’s cameras everywhere, you’re really a lot more under the microscope than you were, so it’s got its fair share of challenges to deal with,” Slater said.
“Fame is always weird. It’s always a weird thing, and right now it feels like a nice level. I mean, this is humbling. It gives me the opportunity to be thrilled and also walk all over myself, so I think it’s great.”
Despite the scrutiny that comes with public life, Slater expressed deep appreciation for the opportunities he has had throughout his career.
“I feel very lucky that I get to do something that I truly love to do,” he said. “I hope it creates a snowball effect that brings me the opportunity to work with better and better people and just have more and more fun.”
“I have amazing and wonderful children that I can’t imagine my life without them,” he said.
Slater was joined at the event by his wife, Brittany Lopez, and two of his four children: daughters Eliana and Lena.
“Oh my gosh, they’re the greatest. And my wife is my best friend,” he added. “Having a star on Hollywood Boulevard is great, but none of this would have been possible without my family and the love I have in my life today.”
Slater gained national attention in the late 1980s for his performance as J.D. in the cult film “Heathers.” The role established him as a prominent figure in Hollywood, and he went on to star in a series of films throughout the 1990s, including “Pump Up the Volume” (1990), “True Romance” (1993), and “Interview with the Vampire” (1994).
In addition to his film work, Slater has maintained a steady presence in television. He earned a Golden Globe Award for his role in the acclaimed series “Mr. Robot,” and has appeared more recently in the drama series “Dr. Death” and the animated series “Inside Job.”
