Dwayne De Rosario, one of Canada’s biggest soccer talents is coming to play for Toronto FC. Canada’s only MLS team acquired De Rosario last Friday from the Houston Dynamo for Julius James and allocation money.

“De Ro” has had a terrific career in MLS with San Jose / Houston winning four MLS Cups. The 30-year-old Scarborough, Ontario native is the fourth all-time leading scorer for Canada’s national soccer team. He won his third consecutive male Canadian Player of the Year award in 2007.

De Rosario’s list of awards and accomplishments is very long but most important is the excitement he will generate when he plays for his hometown team. De Rosario has a knack for scoring the highlight reel goal, winning the MLS Goal of the Year award in 2004 and 2005.

“Playing in front of family and friends is always an experience that you cherish,” said De Rosario on his official Web site www.dwaynederosario.com.

“Being born in Scarborough and growing up in the Toronto area, it is great to have professional soccer here. The support that Toronto FC gets is amazing. The fan base is tremendous and they are passionate, knowledgeable fans.”

“Dwayne is a player we’ve admired for quite some time. He’s a wonderful talent and I hope all of our supporters are as excited as we are that Dwayne is now a member of Toronto FC,” said director of soccer Mo Johnston.

Toronto FC, badly in need of attacking talent, couldn’t have found a better solution. “De Ro” badly wanted to come back home and Toronto FC will be a vastly improved team in 2009—not a bad piece of business for Mo Johnston, who has been criticized after two mediocre seasons.
