Phil Robertson, the Duck Dynasty patriarch, and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin made public appearances for Bill Cassidy, a GOP candidate for a Louisiana Senate seat.

Palan posted photos of her and Robertson on Facebook. His wife, Kay, and brother Jep Robertson also appeared in the photos.

According to RadarOnline, Robertson and his family hosted Palin at his home in Louisiana to stump for Cassidy.

Palin wrote on Facebook: “Thanks to Phil and Miss Kay for the most scrumptious country cooking tonight in their home kitchen! So authentic and everything from scratch! I recognized lots of recipes from Miss Kay’s cookbook: chicken and dumplings, fried cornbread, turnip greens, creamed corn, squash casserole… we are now happy, happy, happy, and stuffed!

A day later, she wrote: “North Louisiana, it was so great to be back in Monroe! With your warm southern hospitality you sure made us feel right at home amidst the duck weather that arrived ahead of season! It’s an exciting time here. America’s eyes are wide open after this month’s election, and those eyes are now focused on Louisiana.”

Palin added: “Congressman Bill Cassidy is ready to serve in the U.S. Senate as a fighter for Louisiana, as opposed to Senator Mary Landrieu who has been a voice for Barack Obama (voting with him 97% of the time) and has virtually ignored good Louisianans’ concerns for so many years.”

The state Democratic party of Louisiana issued a statement after Robertson’s campaigning.

“Mr. Robertson is a colorful character, and he’s entitled to shout his opinions from the rooftops. He is a reality TV star, after all. But this is a political rally, and Congressman Bill Cassidy should be ashamed to be providing Mr. Robertson with a stage and microphone to spread his political beliefs further than rooftop ranting would allow,” it said in a statement.

According to a poll report from The Hill, Cassidy has taken a lead in Louisiana.

“Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) has opened up a 16-point lead over Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) in their Louisiana Senate runoff, according to an internal poll conducted on behalf of the Cassidy campaign and obtained by The Hill,” the report said. “Cassidy takes 56.6 percent against Landrieu’s 40.5 percent in the poll conducted by Magellan Strategies.”
