The car that slammed into the back of a vehicle, killing a woman and baby in Texas, was drunk, according to officials.
Officer said a white Lincoln SUV slammed into the back of a dark purple Toyota.
The woman and child were inside the Toyota, and were unconscious when a witness pried open the driver’s side door after the crash.
The woman and baby died at the scene.
The driver of the Lincoln and her passenger were rushed to the hospital and are expected to recover.
Moyer said that the driver of the Lincoln, a 20-year-old woman, didn’t seem to realize she had hit the Toyota, initially believing she had run out of gas.
“She was screaming that she had just come from the bar,” Moyer said. “I heard her say that. She said they had just come from the bar, that they were out of gas.”
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
It’s unclear how fast the Lincoln was going when the driver slammed into the other vehicle.
The identities of the woman and baby have not been released as of yet.
The feeder road was closed for hours while police investigated the crash and cleared the vehicles from the scene.
