When Riza Delloro heard a dog cry out in pain outside her house, she jumped into action. She knew her neighbor’s dog, Lucky, an Aspin dog, was pregnant and due to have her puppies any time now.
“I heard the dog in pain and knew she was pregnant, so I was worried straight away,” she said. Riza ran out into the yard and found Lucky had collapsed and was now unconscious. Lucky had gone into labor, but her body couldn’t cope.
Lucky’s owner thought there was no hope of her survival, and in the video you can see what a bad state she’s in - she looks like she’s already gone. Lucky’s owner just hoped to save the puppies.
But Riza was determined; she pulled Lucky into her lap, started massaging her heart and giving her mouth-to-mouth. She repeatedly dribbled water into Lucky’s mouth, and rubbed her body, hoping to bring her back to life.
Lucky was unconscious for a long time, with one of the puppies partly delivered. It was a tense few minutes, but finally you can see the life come back into Lucky’s eyes.
Riza wasn’t willing to give up on Lucky, and she successfully gave birth to five beautiful healthy puppies. All six dogs survived the difficult labor thanks to Riza’s kind heart and determination not to let Lucky die.
