When they diagnosed a woman in the United Kingdom with cervical cancer, doctors told her she had months left to live and that she would be unable to have any more children. Three years later, she proved them wrong and not only survived her disease but also gave birth to a baby boy.

Helen Dixon, a mother from Leeds, United Kingdom, started feeling sick in 2014. Initially, her doctors thought her symptoms were due to a miscarriage. However, a smear test at the beginning of 2015 revealed something much worse; the then-32-year-old woman had cancer, and her prognosis was terrible, per Daily Mail.

At the time, Dixon already had two daughters from a previous relationship but was trying to start a family with her new husband, Paul. In February 2015, she received the heartbreaking news that she was infertile as a result of chemotherapy.

After three long years of Dixon battling the cruel disease, the cancer miraculously stopped growing. It was then that the couple started looking into the possibility of having a child from a surrogate. However, astoundingly, that soon became a non-issue when Dixon found herself pregnant!

“It was really strange. One day I woke up and said, ‘I feel really pregnant.’” she recalled. “I was scared, excited, and nervous at the same time. I was rushed for an emergency scan and found out I was over three-and-a-half weeks gone.”

Upon hearing the news, the mom claims her medical team was also astounded to hear about the remarkable pregnancy. “The doctors were shocked because they'd told me it couldn’t happen,” she said. “They called him a little miracle. They didn’t even expect me to last this long. In 2015, they gave me months.”

While tempted to be overjoyed, Dixon did confess that she was “really nervous” until the pregnancy hit the 28-week mark. And in June 2019, she delivered a beautiful baby boy, named Harvey George, by emergency C-section.

“I was hoping for a boy, I’ve got two girls, and the thought of raising him and watching him grow has given us something to look forward to,” she said.

Strangely, according to husband Paul, cancer played an unexpected part in the mother’s ability to carry the pregnancy to term. “There was lots of scar tissue from the cancer which kept the pregnancy going by making her cervix stronger, the father explained.

“Harvey really is our little miracle baby; there have been ups and downs but he’s gorgeous and really well behaved,” he added.

As for Dixon herself, while doctors warned her the cancer might come back, she’s focused on enjoying the miracle life has offered her and claims she feels “perfect.” “I’m getting back into the routine of being a new mother again after 13 years,” she told The Daily Mail.
