Bungie has announced that beta testers won’t be able to keep their Destiny characters.

More than 4.6 million people took part in the beta test, and played more than 88 million games, but sadly, Bungie announced that beta characters, known as Guardians, “won’t transfer to the final version of Destiny.”

Bungie designer Tyson Green explained: “Since the Beta, we’ve continued to tune and adjust the game.

“The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times.

“Items have been added and removed. New features toggled.

“Although there’s no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the Beta Build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst.”

Bungie also assures beta testers that the beta was the real deal, but the “significant alterations” that have to be made to some characters meant that players cannot keep their beta Guardians.

Destiny will be released for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on September 9, 2014.

Bungie remain tight-lipped about whether they will eventually work on a PC version.

Lead designer Lars Bakken had told Eurogamer, “The truth is it’s not that simple.”

“I wish it was that simple. It’s pretty complicated. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen in the future, it just means it won’t happen right now.”

“I look forward to our future conversations around PC,” Bungie COO Pete Parsons added.

“We love the PC. We hear it too. We ask the question of ourselves.”
