Another candidate in the New York City mayoral race is throwing her hat in the ring. Democrat Ceceilia Berkowitz announced her candidacy for New York City mayor on the steps of City Hall today.

An introduction on her website quotes her as saying: “If all goes well, you are looking at the next Mayor of the City!”

According to her campaign website, 34-year-old Berkowitz has a fairly hefty resume, though no political background to speak of. A graduate of the Wharton School with an MBA in accounting, Berkowitz has worked as a social media journalist and a professor of finance, economics, mathematics, and marketing/consumer behavior. She is also an accountant. Some of her past employers have included Baruch College, Medgar Evers College, a Lower East Side CPA firm and HotJobs.com.

Berkowitz’s platform focuses on issues such as environmental policy reform, supporting the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, and being inclusive of New Yorkers deciding what issues matter most to the people of the city. She also notes in her campaign materials that as the girlfriend of an Algerian immigrant, she is a supporter of helping immigrants in New York City succeed.

According to the independent website DecideNYC.com, Berkowitz is one of seven Democratic candidates in the 2013 mayoral race, and 1 of 12 total candidates from both the Democratic and Republican parties. A 13th candidate from the Green Party is also running.
