Daanbantayan in Cebu Province was heavily damaged by Typhoon Yolanda on Friday, with roofs being ripped off almost all the houses in the city.

“Roofs are flying everywhere,” reported the Cebu Daily News during the storm.

On Saturday people with relatives in the city were saying that they were not able to reach the relatives. There is basically zero network coverage in the area, and power is out in much if not all of the city.

PAGASA said that Yolanda made its third landfall over Daanbantayan at 9:40 a.m.

Strong winds blew off roof of the Daanbantayan Cultural Center, Vice Mayor Gilbert Arrabis told the Philippine Information Agency.

In addition, the winds blew parked cars and motorcycles around, and left the city without power.

PDDREM Chief Neil Sanchez said that Daanbantayan is “isolated” and “a lot of houses are destroyed.”

On Saturday, Rico Lucena of ABS-CBN reported that there’s still no communication or power in Daanbantayan.

Pete Romanillos said that the sight in Daanbantayan is “unbelievable” after the typhoon.

Trivy Villegas-Mendoza, who has a home in the city, said that despite there being no casualties there is “massive damage.”

“Unbelievable but grateful for the safety of our loved ones,” she said via Facebook.

The blog TenMinutes.ph posted photos of northern Cebu and called the area, which includes Daanbantayan, Bogo City, and Medellin, a “ghost town.”
