Cyclone Christine swept in from the Indian Ocean, hitting Australia’s Pilbara region in the north-west, the world’s largest iron ore mining and shipping area, bringing torrential rain and cyclonic winds on Monday and Tuesday.

Freighters were cleared and staff evacuated. The center of the cyclone is estimated to have gusts of more than 100 mph, according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, and it is heading inland.
