An armed man broke into a home in Chicago, but he was shot dead by the homeowner.
The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. on Jan. 8, in the city’s South Austin neighborhood.
The armed robber was a documented gang member, according to WGN.
When the would-be robber entered the home, the 58-year-old homeowner, who has a conceal carry license, whipped out his gun and shot the suspect.
Other reports say that Shaquille Gales, 23, approached the homeowner outside of the home and pulled out a gun, demanding the victim’s property.
The Chicago Tribune says the homeowner then pulled out his firearm and shot Gales.
Gales was one of five people in Chicago shot between Monday and Tuesday mornings.
As of 2013, people carrying guns concealed required an Illinois Concealed Carry License, according to the state.
People who get the license are those who provide an application, documentation, and fees; and those the Department of State Police determine pose no danger to himself, herself, or others.
