The Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is one of China’s most ancient and popular traditions. Best known as a time for families and friends to get together and feast, its signature food is a cake with yellow egg yolks in the middle like the harvest moon.

It falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in China’s traditional calendar, which is Sept. 15 this year on the Gregorian calendar.

The festival will be celebrated at Mount Hope Town Park, 340 Finchville Turnpike in Otisville on Sept. 17 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

There will be vendors selling Chinese and non-Chinese food, tea tastings, origami, Chinese calligraphy, a dragon dance, and live music.

Admittance is free but food is not.
