CHARLOTTE, N.C—Young friends Jenna Lee and Holly met each other during Shen Yun Performing Arts intermission at the Charlotte Knight Theater at the Jan. 27 evening performance. Both girls were adopted from China.
Each girl attended Shen Yun with her parents. “I think it’s really good,” said Jenna Lee. “I like it.”
Holly said that she liked Shen Yun’s colors and costumes.
Bill Horton, a scientist with Duke Energy, said that Jenna Lee is from Yunnan Province and Holly is from Sichuan Province.
Mr. Horton said he thought Shen Yun was very good. “The colors, like Holly said,” especially impressed him. The skills of the dancers and the challenging techniques they performed were fantastic, he said.
According to Shen Yun’s website, technical skill in classical Chinese dance refers to a series of highly difficult techniques, including jumping and leaping, turning, and flipping. These techniques serve to enhance bearing and form.
‘It’s amazing’
Rebecca Peirce, an English professor, and her husband Matt Peirce, a contracts manager for HCA Health Care, attended the performance with friends and family.
Mrs. Peirce said she found it interesting to see a form of dance that she has never seen before and that she enjoyed the stories being told through the dance.
According to Shen Yun’s website, “alongside ballet, classical Chinese dance is one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.”
“It’s amazing,” said Mr. Peirce. He said the choreography is phenomenal. Mr. Peirce said that the Shen Yun dancers lining up with each other are spot on, perfectly synchronized. “That’s really impressive to me,” he said.
