Three earthquakes, in the space of only 7 minutes from first to last, shook northwest China’s Xinjiang region on June 8, with five people injured, two severely.

The first quake struck at 9:53 am 22 miles northwest of Toksun County, located in Turpan Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region and registered at a magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale, according to China’s seismologic network.

The quake caused a car collision, resulting in five injuries, two of them severe, as reported by Xinhua.

At the same location, one minute later, there was another 4.2 magnitude earthquake, 10 km deep, and a final 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck at 10:00 am, at a depth of 7 km.

After the earthquakes, local high school students taking the national college entrance exam were evacuated the test site.

Passenger and cargo trains in the Urumqi-Turpan section of the Lanxin Railway were halted for over 2 hours.
