Deputies searched singer Cher’s Malibu residency with a warrant after arresting a resident, on the 25000 block of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California, on Sept. 27.

After two weeks of investigation into the sales of suspected Fentanyl to residents of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, police arrested one of Cher’s assistants’ son, 23-year-old Donovan Ruiz.

Ruiz is linked to a drug overdose death in the Thousand Oaks neighborhood in mid-September. Authorities said that Ruiz provided a potent opioid that’s 50 times stronger than heroin to the victim.

Detectives were able to seize evidence related to Ruiz’s selling of illegal controlled substances.

Ruiz’s bail was set at $500,000, and he’s scheduled to be arraigned in Ventura County Superior Court on Oct. 1st at 1:30 P.M.

Cher is currently in Australia for her 11-concert tour which started Sept. 26, and she was not involved in the arrest or search.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit (PCU) led the operation. It’s made up of members from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Thousand Oaks Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, the Simi Valley Police Department, and the Ventura Police Department.

Their primary mission is to combat the transfer of legal prescription medication to the illegal market. In addition, the task force works to identify and stop new trends of abuse among the younger population and investigates overdoses due to both prescription medication and illicit drug use.

Police said the public may anonymously email pharm.tip@ventura.org to report any other pharmaceutical related crimes involving prescription medications, according to a public announcement.
