CHARLOTTE, N.C—Horse training sisters from Waxhaw, N.C recommend Shen Yun Performing Arts to everyone. Dusti and Codi Hausman attended Shen Yun at the Knight Theater on Jan. 27.

“I thought it was great,” Dusti said. She invited her sister Codi to the performance.

“I enjoyed it quite a lot,” said Codi, adding that she doesn’t normally attend performances. She thought Shen Yun was really cool and she liked watching it.

The Hausman sisters train horses for a living. The Mark Hausman Training Center in Waxhaw, N.C is their family business, where “Helping people ride better horses” is not just a slogan; it’s an everyday occurrence, according to its website.

Dusti is skilled at horse vaulting, which is gymnastics and dance on horseback, and has competed in teams nationally and appeared on America’s Horse Daily, writing about vaulting.

Dusti said that she liked Shen Yun’s colors and the traditional Chinese culture. “I thought it was really neat,” she said. Dusti found classical Chinese dance interesting because the movements are different than traditional Western ballet.

Alongside ballet, classical Chinese dance is one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world with its development spanning 5,000 years. According to Shen Yun’s website, classical Chinese dance has “become a complete system of dance embodying traditional aesthetic principles with its unique dance movements, rhythms, and inner meaning.”
