Academy Museum in Los Angeles to Host ‘Oscars Season’ Activities

Visitors to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures can celebrate the upcoming 96th Academy Awards by participating in several events in advance of the March 10 award show.

The museum’s “Oscars Season at the Academy Museum” will run from Jan. 27 to March 31.

The public is invited to explore the award’s history through one-of-a-kind Oscar-centered events and activities at the museum, located at 6067 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Beginning Jan. 27 in the David Geffen Theater located inside the museum, the public can watch several Oscar nominated short films from the past 10 years for the price of general admission. The viewings will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 27, Jan. 28, Feb. 3, Feb. 4, and Feb. 10.

General admission for adults is $25, seniors $19, students $15, and is free for children up to 17 years old.

The titles this year include “Feast” (2014), “Bear Story” (2014), “Piper (2016), Bao (2018), and Hair Love (2019).

Starting Jan. 28, visitors can see films nominated in past Academy Award ceremonies, all starting at 7:30 p.m. The series begins with “Brokeback Mountain,” followed by “Malcolm X” on Feb. 4; “Dreamgirls” Feb. 11; “Ray” Feb. 18; and “10 Years After the Win: 12 Years a Slave” on Feb. 25.

This year’s Academy Awards will be held live at 4 p.m. March 10 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

An “Oscars Night” watch party will be held at the museum beginning at 3 p.m. A pre-show will kick off at 3:30 p.m., followed by viewing the awards. Tickets range from $250 to $450 per person. Dress code is black-tie option, cocktail, or formal attire. All guests must be 21 years old or older to attend and have a government-issued photo ID to check in.

During the week following the awards ceremony, the museum will play a selection of winning films, including documentary, animated, international, and the movie that wins the best picture award.
