Nearly 62,000 pounds of steamed chicken soup dumplings from Trader Joe’s are being recalled due to possible contaminants, including plastic from a permanent marker pen, according to state regulators.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service made the announcement March 2 and said the issue was discovered after customers complained they had found hard plastic in their food. There are no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consumers, they said.

The agency noted the now recalled dumplings were produced by CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corporation, located in Beaumont. The 6-oz boxes have an expiration date of March 7, 2025, and have the number P-46009 printed inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The inspection agency urged consumers with the product in their freezer to discard or return it.

Trader Joe’s in their own announcement said customers who still have the dumplings can return them for a full refund.

“We are recalling Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings (SKU# 54988) with the best by date 03.07.25 and lot code C1-1 or C1-2 due to the potential presence of foreign material,” the company said in a March 2 statement.

Customers with questions can contact the store’s customer relations team at (626) 599-3817 between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.
