Peloton, one of the nation’s most well-known stationary bike manufacturers, is recalling over 800,000 of its Peloton Original Series Bike+ Model PL02 due to concerns about the bike’s seat post assembly.

The bike serial numbers begin with the letter “T” located inside or behind the front fork, or behind the flywheel. The bike measures 4 feet long by 2 feet wide and has an adjustable seat and handlebar.

According to a Nov. 6 notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the assembly could break during use, causing bikers to fall and sustain injuries.

Nearly 833,000 of these bike models may be affected. Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled bikes and contact Peloton for free repairs. The company is offering consumers a free seat post that can be self-installed.

Those consumers who may be affected can either call Peloton toll-free at 866-679-9129 or contact them online at OnePeloton.com using the recall number 26-067.

To date, Peloton has received three reports of the seat post breaking and detaching from the bike while in use, including two injuries from a fall.

Manufactured in Taiwan, the Peloton bike retails for $2,495. It is generally sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide, as well as online at OnePeloton.com, Amazon, and eBay.

Peloton issued a similar recall of its Original Series bikes in 2023 involving the replacement of the bike’s seat posts. Those bikes were manufactured between 2018 and 2023, resulting in 35 reports of seat posts breaking and 13 injuries, including a wrist fracture, lacerations, and bruises.
In 2021, the company recalled its original Peloton Tread+ for posing a risk of entrapment near the real roller of the treadmill. As a result, Peloton provided a free, in-home installation of a rear guard to eliminate any possible entrapment issues.

Founded in 2012, Peloton combined fitness hardware with technology to create a gym-like atmosphere in homes so that people could work out on their own schedules. They provide a library of classes and instructors.  The New York City-based company offers bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, and even fitness apparel.

The company says it has up to 3 million subscribers. In fiscal year 2024, Peloton reported an annual revenue of $2.71 billion.

Meanwhile, the CPSC also issued a related notice of recall for Lezyne pressure overdrive bicycle floor pumps for possible defective canisters. The recall indicates that the canister can forcefully eject from the base when pressurized and pose a risk of serious injury from the impact. Nearly 7,500 pumps could be affected.

Consumers are being asked to contact Lezyne for a free replacement pump. The recall number is 26-078.

So far, Lezyne has received only one report of a canister ejecting from its base, resulting in serious injuries to the face.  This product, also manufactured in Taiwan, sells for $150 to $180.
