American Honda Motor Co. on March 4 announced a recall of 65,135 Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue vehicles due to a potential software issue that could lead to a blank image displayed on the center video console when the vehicles are in operation.

In normal operation, the vehicles’ infotainment centers display a wide range of information, including vehicle speed, engine revolutions per minute, navigation, phone calls, and important warning notices when necessary.

However, a software defect may cause the center infotainment display to go blank while driving and the instrument cluster to show a blank image after the vehicle is started and shifted into reverse, the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration (NHTSA) said in a recall notice.

“If the instrument cluster display goes blank while driving, the driver may be unable to view critical vehicle information, including vehicle speed and warning indicators, reducing the driver’s situational awareness and increasing the risk of a crash or injury,” the recall notice said.

“If the infotainment display does not display the rearview camera image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, the driver will have reduced rearward visibility.”

Honda said it has identified six different software defects in the radio control module that transmits data to the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Each defect can occur independently, Honda noted, and when a processing error occurs, it could lead to a system reboot or crash with the instrument cluster or infotainment system, and both displays in the affected vehicles will go blank.

“This condition may occur intermittently and may recover after the vehicle is restarted,” Honda noted.

The radio control modules were made by Robert Bosch LLC of Farmington Hills, Michigan. The recall population includes 19,573 Acura ZDX electric sport utility vehicles (SUVs) model year 2024, and 45,562 Honda Prologue electric SUVs model year 2024.

Honda said it first received notification of the issue in June 2024 and opened an investigation. Beginning in January 2025, Honda said it had implemented improved software for all new 2025 Honda Prologues, while the Acura ZDX was discontinued after the 2024 production run.

As of Feb. 19, Honda said it had received 148 warranty claims related to the issue. Honda will mail recall notices to affected owners beginning April 20. Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX owners in the recall population can take their vehicles to an authorized dealer for a free software update to the radio control module.

Owners can also contact Honda’s customer service line at 888-234-2138 and reference recall numbers TNL and XNK. Owners can determine if their automobiles are part of the recall by inputting their vehicle identification number into the NHTSA’s recall portal beginning March 4.
