Burma Security Forces Kill at Least 9 as International Community Calls for End to Violence

International pressure on Burma’s military junta to halt its repression of pro-democracy protests following last month’s coup increased on Friday as security forces shot dead at least nine demonstrators on the streets.

Calls for dialogue and the end to the bloodshed came from several of Burma’s Southeast Asian neighbors led by Indonesia—an unusual stance in regional diplomacy.
