Three people murdered in December in the nation’s capital area were reportedly swept up in a credit card scam with an aspiring rapper.
The rapper, “Jugga Knott,” has now been charged in one of the killings.
The murders happened on Dec. 28 in a span of eight hours, starting with Ronzay Green, 23, being gunned down in a parking lot in Northeast Washington, D.C.
Police officers later found Armani Coles, 27, dead on the side of I-295 in nearby Maryland, and Kerrice Lewis, 23, dead inside a burning car in a Southeast D.C. alley.
Dennis Whitaker, who was also allegedly involved, was afraid that he was being set up for a robbery and decided to take the three associates out.
Whitaker has been charged with Green’s murder while Malique Lewis was arrested for Coles’ murder.
Ashton Briscoe was arrested on Sunday and charged with Kerrice Lewis’ murder.
Evidence used in the case has included a McDonald’s receipt left in Briscoe’s car linking him to Lewis’ death, and cellphone records used to connect Malique Lewis to Coles’ murder.
The mother of Coles, a custodian in the District’s school system, told the Post that she was heartbroken by the loss of her son.
“He was a very unique and quiet young man,” Amber Coles said of her son. “He loved going to work every day knowing that [there were] things in life his son wanted and he was going to make sure he had it.”
