Keith Owen was fined and sentenced for orchestrating a scam where tens of millions of nonorganic eggs were marketed as organic or free-range, according to the BBC.

Owen’s Heart of England Eggs were sold across England. Earlier this month Owen admitted to providing companies in the egg supply business with false accounting information. Suppliers were told the eggs were British, organic and free-range. The eggs were actually from France and Ireland.

“This was all a carefully-planned and executed fraud by false accounting,” said Judge Toby Hooper. Hooper said he abused public trust and must serve time in prison for the severity of his crime. Owen was fined almost $4.9 million.
