Police are investigating after the body of a newborn infant was found in a dumpster located in Irving, Texas.

A citizen discovered the deceased newborn on Dec. 30, on the 200 block of Chamberlain Street. The infant was found at about 3:30 p.m, according to a recent news release from the Irving Police Department.

Authorities arrived at the scene after a citizen alerted them to the discovery.

“Initial medical tests indicate the child was born alive,” the Thursday, Jan. 18 news release stated.

In the early stages of the investigation, detectives found a possible suspect.

But DNA tests later revealed that the unidentified woman was not the baby’s mother.

Detectives are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the person who gave birth to the baby and discarded it in the dumpster.

The full statement from the police department can be seen below:

Comments on the department’s post express sadness and anger. People pointed out that the mother had other options if she did not want the baby.

More information will be released as the story develops.
