Boardwalk Empire Season 5 will be the final season in the series.
HBO has confirmed that the American Prohibition period drama won’t be renewed.
“It has been an incredible honor to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers,” said programming president Michael Lombardo.
“Terry Winter has created one for the ages.”
Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City by Nelson Johnson was producer Terence Winter inspiration for the series.
The book is about historical criminal kingpin Enoch L. Johnson. Boardwalk Empire protagonist Enoch “Nucky” Thompson is based on the corrupt politician Johnson.
A preteen Nucky is set to appear in Season 5, according to E! Online. Nucky wasn’t brought up in a “warm and loving” environment, and already had the street smarts as a youth.
Winter said, “We’re thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of Boardwalk Empire.”
“After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision to end the series has to do with the direction in which the series has progressed.Boardwalk Empire Season 5 is now in the casting phase. Base on casting calls, we should see American tourists in Cuba and Italian boys at a banquet scene in Season 5.
