PORT JERVIS—Olympic gold medalists Ed and Lou Banach and their brother Steve returned to the city where they were raised to promote a book about their lives. The brothers met well-wishers and fans on Oct. 10 at the Erie Hotel and signed copies of their book, “Uncommon Bonds: A Journey in Optimism.” About 50 people patiently stood in line and enjoyed hors d'oeuvres while the brothers mingled and posed for photos.

The twin brothers both won gold medals in wrestling in the 1984 Olympic Games. Adopted and raised by Alan and Stephanie Tooley in the Port City, they excelled in football and wrestling in high school and went on wrestling scholarships at the University of Iowa. Lou entered active duty in the U.S. Army and coached wrestling at West Point. Steve became a Ranger in the U.S. Army. The brothers now work for the same company in three cities in the Midwest. Ed Banach was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2002.
