MONTREAL—Award-winning author and editor of the McGill university paper, Neale McDevitt, commended Shen Yun Performing Arts for its ability to tell the history of classical Chinese dance.
“I wasn’t expecting ... to learn the history of the dance along with watching the dance. But to learn the history of Chinese dance, it’s very interesting,” Mr. McDevitt said during intermission of the Saturday evening show in the Place des Arts.
“The first half has been wonderful. So colorful and vibrant, and it’s really impressive,” he said.
The New York based company travels the world with the mission of reviving 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture, which according to the company, is inspired by the divine. Many stories are said to take the audience on a journey from ancient China up until the present.
Mr. McDevitt said he didn’t know just how diverse and rich the Chinese culture was and how it could be translated into dance.
