PORT JERVIS, N.Y.—The 17th Annual Arts Walk on historic Front Street was alive was music, art, and dance on July 18. The street was filled with works of photography, paintings, and handmade clothing so beautiful they could be called works of art.

The cloudy Saturday was shaping up to be sultry but vendors, visitors, and performers seemed not to notice.

Love of nature and love of animals seemed the order of the day. Solar company GreenStreet came out from the Bronx to tell visitors the benefits of solar power. Steven Cook’s Nature in the Lens showed the fierce beauty of wildlife. His photos of eagles were especially inspiring.

Photographer Dawn Benko says on her website to “stop looking and start seeing.” Her images of natural landscapes were inviting in the hot weather. A large table covering that said “Where Animals Matter” expressed the mission of Animal Manor Sanctuary in Huguenot, which creates a home for homeless pets.

Songtress Shyla Macaluso sang while she accompanied herself on the guitar to entertain the afternoon crowd. The Dance Center in Port Jervis presented several crowd-pleasing acts, climaxed with selections from the classic ballet Swan Lake.

If visitors had a yen for local produce, they could walk to the parking lot next door to visit the Port Jervis farmer’s market on its opening day.
