One person was killed and about 200 wounded when security forces attacked an anti-government sit-in the city of Hudaida, in western Yemen on Tuesday, according to reports.

One person was killed and about 200 wounded when security forces attacked an anti-government sit-in the city of Hudaida, in western Yemen on Tuesday, according to reports.

The seated demonstrators were surrounded then attacked with teargas, knives, and bats. Security forces also fired live ammunition and rubber bullets at the demonstrators, according to Reuters.

A doctor from a local hospital said, “We received around 200 wounded, 10 were hit by gunfire and 40 suffered stab wounds. One died from gunshot wounds after reaching the hospital,” according to the report.

BBC reported that police only fired after anti-government protesters were attacked by government loyalists wielding clubs and rocks.

The anti-government protesters want an end to the 32-year rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
