Twitter #music launches: Twitter launched it’s new service on Thursday, April 18, to connect Tweeters with more music and artists through social media.

Twitter #music detects the most popular tracks on Twitter and gives them a prominent place, along side emerging artists. The new service is now available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Twitter reports that it may bring the service to other countries and to Android—it is currently available as an iPhone app.

“Many of the most-followed accounts on Twitter are musicians, and half of all users follow at least one musician,” states an official Twitter blog post describing the service.

Ryan Seacrest Tweeted: “Playing with @twitter’s new music app (yes it’s real!)...there’s a serious dance party happening at idol right now.”

Twitter user @PatriotLemonade Tweeted: “Good to see Twitter #Music is here. I have become bored with the 943 options I currently have to listen to music.”

The service helps people find new music they might like through their network—users can see what music their friends or other users are following. While listening to a song within the service, it is easy to Tweet it out to followers.

It also connects to the Twitter accounts of the musicians featured. The music is sourced from  iTunes, Spotify, and Rdio.

The top three trending songs on Twitter #music on Thursday at 11 a.m. EST were “Gentleman,” by Psy; “Heart Attack,” by Demi Lovato; and “Just Give Me a Reason,” by Pink.
