President Donald Trump has singled out several Democratic Party leaders in his ire over the impeachment inquiry launched against him.
Trump named six House members: Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee; Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee; and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and her three close allies—Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).
Trump, who has long accused Democrats of doing little besides constantly investigating him, took to Twitter to write, “Can you imagine if these Do Nothing Democrat Savages, people like Nadler, Schiff, AOC Plus 3, and many more, had a Republican Party who would have done to Obama what the Do Nothings are doing to me.”
“Oh well, maybe next time!” he added.
Trump soon posted three additional missives saying: “Presidential Harassment!”, “Make America Great Again!”, and “Keep America Great!”
The president has focused on Schiff especially in recent days after the Congressman fabricated parts of the transcript of a phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Rep. Adam Schiff fraudulently read to Congress, with millions of people watching, a version of my conversation with the President of Ukraine that doesn’t exist. He was supposedly reading the exact transcribed version of the call, but he completely changed the words to make it sound horrible [and] me sound guilty,” Trump said in a statement.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced the impeachment inquiry this week, accusing Trump of committing impeachable conduct during the phone call with Zelensky.
If the House impeaches the president, a trial for the charges would take place in the Senate, which is controlled by Republicans.
When the last president was impeached—Democratic President Bill Clinton—by the House, the Senate voted to find him not guilty on the charges, so he remained in office.
