Filmmakers Gavin Heffernan and Harun Mehmedinović’s time-lapse video “Wavelight,” casts Arizona’s mesmerizing sandstone formations, The Wave, in a unique light.

The mesmerizing lines of canyons seem to flow like fast-flowing rivers when combined with the rapid change of background scenery. The stationary rock formations are infused with life.

Clouds melt in the sky, and valley pools dance wildly to the tune of the wind. The brilliant orb of the moon boldly announces the fall of day into night before diving behind the smooth ridges. The Milky Way flows after it.

In the rosy, predawn light, the striped ridges look more like candycanes than the racing rivers of midday. Ledges still shadowed in the cold dark of night shimmer an otherworldly silver.
